Where do The Cookies Come From?

Meet the baker

Hello, My Name is . . .

Loretta Haskell

Loretta Haskell has over 10 years of experience across digital storytelling, publishing, small biz management, and education. She's a writer (fiction and copy) who loves to help out. Since 2016, she's been supporting artists around the Bay Area as they crafted, built their businesses, worked weekend markets, got organized, and reached out to the people.

During the pandemic, she started building websites for therapists. Eventually, the digital support found its way back to her art community. :)

Why Sugar Cookies?

Back in 2013, Loretta was a services coordinator at a small academic library in Iowa. She started baking to feed hungry graduate students while they crammed for finals. It turned out the recipe, which combined a butter cookie recipe from her grandmother with a yolks-only sugar cookie recipe, created something special.

From there, those sugar cookies went on to sustain letterpress printmakers through the holiday rush, creatives during the late-night launch weeks, and dear friends during the loneliest days of the pandemic. Wherever they went, they brought joy and made the task just a little bit easier.

So when it came time to name this endeavor—designed to sustain the hard-working artist—there really was only one idea that fit.  Sugar cookies make life better. :)
